Kristen Wiig entertained "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon Wednesday when she showed up to her interview dressed as Khaleesi from HBO's "Game of Thrones," complete with a tiny plastic dragon atop her shoulder.
Wiig, the "Saturday Night Live" alum who was nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Academy Award in 2012 for "Bridesmaids," stopped by the late night show to promote her next movie project "Welcome to Me" — which has virtually nothing to do with Khaleesi, or Daenerys Targaryen, from "Game of Thrones."
"Her sartorial choices — and distinct lack of knowledge about 'Game of Thrones' or Daenerys Targaryen — overshadowed any sort of promotional chatter she might have had
planned," wrote Sarene Leeds of The Wall Street Journal.
"For all we know, Wiig could be a hardcore 'GoT' — but since she knew it would be way funnier to come out dressed as the Khaleesi and act like she didn't know anything about Daenerys' backstory, she went the clueless route. This, of course, worked like a charm."
When Fallon asked Wiig where she lives, the comedienne deadpanned, "I live in the forest on a mountain. In, like, a dome that I made, out of dirt and sticks — with all my dragons."
Fallon struggled to keep a straight face during his "Rapid Fire Questions" segment with her.
"Wiig — or Khaleesi — revealed, among other things, that her real name was Karen, her dragon was called Karl, her favorite food was meat and she does a great
stand-up routine about rocks and swords," Us Weekly wrote.
Fallon was likely not surprised by Wiig's gag. Last year, she appeared on "The Tonight Show" as Harry Styles of the British boy band "One Direction." In 2013, when Fallon was host of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," Wiig donned a skull cap and dressed as former NBA star Michael Jordan.
"Welcome to Me" is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday while her next high-profile gig, an all-female reboot of "Ghostbusters," is expected to be finished for movie audiences the
summer of 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
