The ABC Friday night TV show "Last Man Standing" has been canceled after six seasons despite being the highest-rated show in its time slot, leading conservatives to wonder if political bias played a role.
According to International Business Times, license negotiations between ABC and 20th Century Fox TV have been lengthy for the last several seasons because of star Tim Allen’s hefty per-episode paycheck.
But the show’s viewership has remained steady while others in the Friday prime-time slot have declined 20 to 30 percent from last season, leading to questions from angry fans wondering if show's cancellation was because of its conservative message.
Allen’s "Last Man Standing" character Mike Baxter is an unabashed conservative who poked fun at liberal viewpoints and at Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama throughout the show’s six seasons. A few months ago, Allen commented about it being difficult to be a conservative in Hollywood, and some are wondering if those comments got his TV show the axe.
Variety reported the 8:30 p.m. show "Dr. Ken" may also be canceled, and that ABC may be thinking of changing its placement of sitcoms during those time slots on Friday altogether.
"Last Man Standing" fans on Twitter were upset that a show they enjoyed would not be returning and hoped another network might air the show instead.
