Limbaugh Slams Beyoncé for What He Says Song 'Bow Down' Means

By    |   Friday, 22 March 2013 01:25 PM EDT

Rush Limbaugh has slammed Beyoncé's newest single "Bow Down" on his talk-radio show, claiming the song shows that the singer understands what it means to bow down to men.

The conservative radio host on Wednesday cited a recent article in the Telegraph and accused Beyoncé of flip-flopping on feminism, doing a 180 from her old powerful, sassy superwoman persona to a woman who believes females should be subservient to men.

"[Destiny's Child] songs were attempts to inspire young women not to take any grief from men. She's done a 180," Limbaugh said on his show Wednesday. "Beyoncé, now having been married, having been impregnated and giving birth to Blue Ivy… she's got a new song, 'Bow, Down B*****s'… Beyoncé is now saying, 'Go ahead and put up with it!'"

Beyoncé, who rose to fame with the girl group Destiny's Child, married rapper Jay-Z and is launching her Mrs. Carter tour next month. Limbaugh says her marriage is the reason behind her new stance on feminism.

"You know why? I'll tell you why. Because she married a rich guy," Limbaugh said. "She's even calling herself Mrs. Carter on the tour… She has shelved Beyoncé… She now understands it's worth it to bow down."

But others say the lyrics of "Bow Down" mean something else entirely: a reminder to her female haters to "bow down."

"I know when you were little girls/You dreamt of being in my world/Don't forget it, don't forget it/Respect that, bow down b*****s," she sings on the track.

They say that's what the Telegraph story Limbaugh referenced really sought to address.

"This will still come as a shock to long-term Beyoncé fans. It seems that overnight we've been transformed from Beyoncé’s beloved single ladies, independent women, and survivors, into her b*****s," writes Felicity Capon in the Telegraph. "From Beyoncé singing, 'all the women, independent, throw your hands up at me' to 'bow down,' a change is underway, and it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth."
