Linda Blair may forever be associated with her Academy Award-nominated role as a demon-possessed child in the 1973 movie "The Exorcist," but today she is turning heads by helping animals, particularly dogs, through her foundation.
Blair told Indianapolis' WISH-TV during a visit to the Indianapolis Humane Society last week that the Southern California animal shelter run by the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation has more than 100 dogs.
The 55-year-old, who said at one time she wanted to be a veterinarian, told WISH-TV that, while she always had a strong love for animals, Hurricane Katrina ravaging the Gulf Coast and stranding hundreds of animals is what really hit home for her.

"I had taken responsibility for so many of the animals down there," Blair told the station.
Her foundation, located in Acton, California, offers nutrition, veterinary care, living facilities, and
training for rescued animals, according to its website. It also attempts to educate the public on the subjects of pet over-population, dog fighting, breed-specific bans, and other issues.
John Aleshire, of the Indianapolis Humane Society, told WISH-TV that Blair's celebrity helps people realize the services his organization provides beyond housing animals.
"We see people who want to support us," he said. "We see people who want to volunteer. We see people who realize we are more than just a shelter. We're a vaccination center. We have a wellness center."
The Indianapolis Humane Society took to Twitter to show its appreciation for Blair's support.
