Man Falls Into Yellowstone Hot Spring Without a Trace

A man who fell into a Yellowstone hot spring is presumed dead after a Tuesday search by park officials could not locate his body.

According to The Associated Press, a witness reported seeing a man in his early 20s fall into the thermal spring about 225 yards away from a boardwalk in the Norris Geyser Basin area. 

The Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest thermal area in Yellowstone, and can reach temperatures of nearly 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

"The features in the basin change daily, with frequent disturbances from seismic activity and water fluctuations," the park website reads, according to the Billings Gazette. 

After the man's fall was reported, rangers searched the area, but had to take extreme caution near the scalding-hot waters.

Over 4 million people visited Yellowstone last year, and this year several high-profile incidents in the park have made headlines.

Over the past weekend, a 13-year-old boy was burned around his foot after his father, who was carrying him, fell at the Upper Geyser Basin hot spring.

Last month, a Canadian film crew was accused of cutting a path off the boardwalk and onto a geothermal feature, snapping pictures and shooting video along the way.

People have also recently been too friendly with park wildlife, especially the bison.
