Mary Kay Letourneau Fualaau is a former sixth-grade teacher who grabbed headlines and a prison sentence for a scandalous relationship with a student 18 years ago. Now, Letourneau and Vili Fualaau, the student who became her husband, are
sitting down with Barbara Walters for an exclusive interview about their marriage as they reach their 10th anniversary.
The interview will air on Friday’s episode of “20/20” on ABC News.
Letourneau was 34 and Fualaau was 13 when their relationship began in 1997, and the former teacher served seven and a half years in prison on child rape charges. Letourneau and Fualaau were married in 2005.
Letourneau tells Walters about plans to teach again and have her status as a registered sex offender lifted while Fualaau, now 31, talks about struggles with alcoholism and depression.
The couple’s daughters, Audrey and Georgia, also will make an appearance. They are now older than Fualaau was when they were conceived.
Audrey was born in May 1997, while Letourneau was out on bail, and Georgia was born in 1998.
Along with the couple’s two daughters, Letourneau, 53, has four other children from a prior marriage.
