The Marysville shooting claimed another victim Friday when 15-year-old Andrew Fryberg died from his injuries at Harborview Medical Center in Washington state, bringing the total death toll to five.
That number includes the shooter, 15-year-old Jaylen Fryberg, who opened fire on his cousin Andrew and others at Marysville-Pilchuck High School on Oct. 24 before turning the
gun on himself, according to King5.com.
"We express our thanks for the amazing support from the community, as well as from everyone around the world that have been praying for us all through this tragic event," the Fryberg family said in a statement Friday. "We also want to say a special thank you to all the amazing staff that have cared for our son and brother here in the pediatric intensive care unit at Harborview."
"Our family is overwhelmed with the love and care that has been provided to our loved one during this time and you all will forever hold a special place in our hearts. But we also ask that you respect our privacy at this time of our deep loss."
The other victims include 14-year-old Zoe Galasso, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died at the school; 14-year-old Gia Soriano, who was critically injured and later died at the hospital; and 14-year-old Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, who also endured a severe head injury.
Another student, 14-year-old Nate Hatch, was released from the hospital Thursday after undergoing multiple surgeries for injuries from a gunshot wound to the jaw. Hatch, like Andrew Fryberg, was also a cousin of the shooter.
He took to social media last week with a personal sendoff to Andrew Fryberg.
