On his radio show Friday, Michael Savage addressed his Thursday tweet that President Donald Trump’s “bitter Twitter needs to stop.”
“I know many of you believe that he’s getting even with the vermin in the media, and he is, but that is the problem — he should not be focused on these losers,” Savage said as he opened his "Savage Nation" show Friday.
“These psychos in the media, he’s giving them exactly what they want, which is publicity,” Savage continued. “Since we’re talking about whether these tweets are hurting his agenda, then they’re hurting his agenda.”
Savage cited a Fox News poll stating 71 percent of viewers think Trump’s tweets are hurting his agenda, even as he admitted that polls could be influenced or fixed. In the poll, only 13 percent approved of Trump’s tweeting, while 46 percent disapproved and 39 percent wished he would be more cautious.
“Yes, we like it emotionally,” Savage admitted. “But when you get into this insulting contest with low IQs in the media, what you’re doing is you’re not using the higher power of your brain. ... Do we really want to run the country on the level of our primitive brains?”
“He is the president,” Savage said a few minutes later, after talking about some of the good things Trump has been accomplishing. “He’s supposed to act like a world leader. ... They are deserving of getting ripped apart. But that’s not the president’s job ... the president is supposed to be above the fray and lead us.”
“Donald Trump has achieved enormous things thus far,” Savage said as the broadcast went on. “But every time he goes down to their level, he undermines his own agenda and his own status as a great leader.”
