The sixth season of CMT series "Nashville" will be its final one and begins in January, the network announced Friday.
The country music-themed series spent four seasons on ABC before being canceled in spring 2016. It was picked up a few weeks later by CMT.
The final season will have 16 episodes in two parts with a summer finale, for which no date has been announced.
The show’s new episodes will be available on Hulu the day after they air, USA Today reported.
“All of us on ‘Nashville’ are so incredibly grateful to the show’s fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters,” Executive Producer Marshall Herskovitz said, USA Today reported. “And we want to return the facor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns — and amazing music! — that made ‘Nashville’ such an exciting journey for the last six years.”
The show follows fictional country music superstars and up-and-coming singers and songwriters trying to catch their big break in the business. It is the highest-rated show in CMT’s history with 2.1 million live viewers per episode, on average.
"Nashville" stars Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Chris Carmack, Kaitlin Doubleday, Johnathan Jackson, and Sam Pallidio.
The final season premiere will be Jan. 4.
Fans expressed on Twitter they were sorry to see the show go.
