A Nevada lamb that was on the lam in the desert overnight this week after surviving a highway crash has found a new home now that a foster family has stepped forward to adopt the animal, who has been named Dodger.

Dodger was one of six sheep that ran off after a tractor-trailer transporting the animals crashed near Boulder City Monday, killing 74 sheep in the load of 250 and injuring five others, The Associated Press reported.

"We call her Dodger because of the traffic she survived on the highway," Ann Inabnitt, Boulder City Animal Control supervisor, told the AP.

Officers were forced to cut holes in the over-turned truck to free the trapped sheep, which were heading to Arizona for shearing. Dodger was one of just three lambs in the load, Inabnitt said.

Five of the six sheep escapees were recaptured on Monday, but Dodger evaded rescuers and wasn't found until Tuesday, the news agency reported. Her capture was left to animal control, as it would have been too expensive to devote resources to capture one lamb.

"They said, 'If you find it, you can have it,'" Inabnitt told the AP.

On a social news site maintained by Boulder City, it was reported that someone spotted Dodger in the desert and animal control called for "men on horseback with lassos to do some wrangling."

It took 50 people about four hours to finally catch Dodger.

Inabnitt told the AP that the lamb has been adopted by a family and is now housed with "a very lonely" female goat.

"They have a big goat that has been by herself and when we put the lamb in there, they started rubbing against each other," Inabnitt said. "It worked out. I wasn't going to allow her to be food. "

"Dodger should become our city's mascot," one commented wrote on the animal control agency's Facebook page.
