NBC revealed more details about a new show starring Bill Cosby at its Television Critics Association panel on Sunday. The "classic, extended-family sitcom" is set to debut next year in the summer or fall.

"Bill plays the patriarch of the family, dispensing his classic wisdom on relationships and parenthood, with three daughters, husbands and grandchildren," said NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke, Deadline Hollywood reported.

Cosby, 77, debuted his seminal small-screen hit, "The Cosby Show," three decades ago on NBC. At the time, it helped rescue the struggling network.

Mike O’Malley, the writer and actor who recently starred in "Welcome to the Family" and "Yes, Dear," is one of the creators of the project. Mike Sikowitz, who is involved with the new CBS comedy "The McCarthys" is also co-creating the show.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt also spoke during the panel, saying the traditionalist multicamera sitcom will be filmed in front of a live studio audience, The Associated Press reported.

"There's been a generation of writers and producers who have gone away from multi-cam, and we are trying to revitalize [that form]," Greenblatt said. "There was such cachet with '30 Rock' and 'The Office,' which reinforced single-camera as the 'better' form, and I hope we can balance the scales a little."

CBS shows like "The Big Bang Theory" and "Mike & Molly" have been huge successes for that network, and NBC seeks to tap into the success of those types of multi-cam sitcoms.

NBC veteran Michael J. Fox, who became a star on "Family Ties" in the early 1980s, recently returned to NBC to star in "The Michael J. Fox Show," however the show was canceled this spring.
