Delta passenger Chris O'Leary was one of two passengers on a flight from Cleveland to New York City on Monday afternoon, a fluke resulting from a rash of flight delays and re-bookings.
O'Leary found he had the 76-seat regional plane nearly all to himself when he boarded at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on his way to New York's LaGuardia Airport,
reported the Plain Dealer.
"Part of this is my own stupidity but it ended up working out in my favor," O'Leary told
ABC News, saying he accidentally missed several airport pages summoning him to catch other flights.
O'Leary said he got to the airport at about 5 a.m. for a 7:15 flight and, after two delays, was told that everyone else had been re-booked on other flights.
"The flight attendant did a personalized safety briefing for me," said O'Leary, a Manhattan advertising manager. "The pilot came out and shook my hand."
Being a savvy marketer, O'Leary took to Twitter.
O'Leary said his flying mate reclined in a first class seat and went to sleep.
A Delta spokesman said he couldn't explain the near-empty airplane, but it probably still flew because it was needed for scheduled flight in New York.
O'Leary had numerous media requests after his sort of solo flight became public and he continued to post about it on Twitter.
