The Peg Perego company has recalled its 850 Polaris Sportsman ride-on vehicles because a relay on the circuit board of the toy can fail and cause a fire hazard.

The ATV-style toy retailed between $500 and $600 on Amazon, Toys R Us, and other online retailers between October 2014 and May 2015. About 3,000 of the black, red and silver toys were sold, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They were intended for children 5 to 7 years old and sat two children per vehicle. They had a flip-up backrest for the passenger and a front and rear luggage rack.

Peg Perego reported to the CPSC that three incidents of the circuit board overheating had been received, including one report of a burn. Peg Perego asks that consumers stop using the toys immediately and contact the company to receive a new circuit board for free. Installation instructions will come with the replacement part, and are also on the Peg Perego website. Shipping of the replacement part is also free.

Peg Perego is also contacting those who purchased the toy directly when they have the information needed to do so. The toys were manufactured in the United States by Peg Perego, a seller of infant and toddler toys, strollers, and other equipment, based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In 2012, Peg Perego recalled hundreds of thousands of strollers due to possible entrapment when children were not properly strapped in, according to Fox News. One child died of strangulation prior to the recall in 2004. The strollers were made prior to an industry standard that was established in 2008 that resolved the possible problem.
