Though the script and plot of the eventual fifth "Indiana Jones" installment are far from complete, the Internet is buzzing with a rumor that "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson is being targeted by Disney to play the title role.
The 28-year-old British actor "is at the top of the initial list because he has showed his acting stripes
away from Twilight, but the competition will be stiff," The Daily Star said.
"[Disney] feels that the series has huge potential on many levels, starting with the films leading to other spin-offs like games which can generate more money than movies," the tabloid said, citing an unidentified source.
However,
E! News reported later that the rumors about Pattinson were false.
Harrison Ford, now 71, originated the role in the 1981 blockbuster "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and played Indiana Jones in three follow-up films. The fourth installment, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," came out in 2008.
Ford is currently in the United Kingdom reprising his role as Han Solo — along with Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill — for the latest "Star Wars" film.
Twitter wasn't thrilled about the idea of the former sparkly vampire playing the rugged hero.
For their part, Disney hasn't disclosed any details about the upcoming project.
Pattinson isn't the first name to be linked to the iconic role. In March, rumors swirled that "American Hustle" and "The Hangover" star
Bradley Cooper was being considered to play Indiana Jones.
