It's a Boy! Royal Baby Finally Born, Palace Announces

The royal baby has been born — and it's a boy!

Prince William's wife Kate Middleton gave birth Monday at 4:24 to a baby boy, according to palace officials. The child's name is not yet known.

The child, who is third in line to the throne behind grandfather Prince Charles and father William, was delivered by Marcus Setchell, the queen's former gynecologist in the private Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital in London, the same place Princess Diana gave birth to William in 1982.

The royal couple, formally known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, arrived at St. Mary's through the back entrance just before 6 a.m. Monday. Kate, 31, labored with William, also 31, by her side.

Kate was forced to reveal her pregnancy back in December after she was admitted to the hospital for severe morning sickness.

Hundreds of well-wishers began gathering outside the St. Mary's weeks ago, camping out as they awaited the arrival of the royal baby. The frenzy was reminiscent of the hubbub that surrounded the couple's 2011 royal wedding.

The royal baby watch also reached near frenzied proportions on Twitter Monday, with many celebrities and public figures tweeting their messages of support to Kate and William ahead of the birth.
