"Sharknado 3" is moving forward, Syfy announced this week, and stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering have signed on to battle the deadly predators once again in the trilogy installment of the campy cult favorite.
"Sharknado 2: The Second One" became Syfy's most watched original movie ever with 3.9 million viewers when it aired over the summer, according to the cable channel, which is a division of
NBC Universal, according to The Wrap.
On Thursday, Syfy confirmed a third round of the movie featuring tornados filled with sharks, which rain down on unsuspecting people, including
Reid's April and Ziering's Fin, Variety reported.
While "Sharknado 2" was set in New York City, producers told Variety that Washington, D.C., will play host to "Sharknado 3." Thunder Levin will write the screenplay and the made-for-television movie will be produced by The Asylum.
The announcement of "Sharknado 3" brought a wide range of comments on social media.
