In a case reminiscent of Rachel Dolezal, prominent Black Lives Matter advocate Shaun King may have been deceiving people for years by saying he was biracial when he is really white, according to The Daily Beast.
King has said in the past that he was born to a black father and white mother.
The Daily Beast, though, charged that King's father, Jeffrey Wayne King, born in Kentucky on Nov. 11, 1955, is actually white.
The website said Jeffrey Wayne King appears on Shaun King's birth certificate as his father and the elder's King's criminal records describe his ethnicity as white.
In June, Rachel Dolezal, then the president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP in Washington state, became the talk of the nation when her parents revealed she was white although Dolezal had claimed she was biracial.
That revelation and her insistence afterward that she identified as biracial led to Dolezal's resignation from the NAACP leadership post and cost her a seat on Spokane's Police Ombudsman Commission,
noted the Washington Post.
Breitbart News posted a story on Wednesday detailing discrepancies in King's ethnicity, noting a 1995 police report in which King was identified as white and questioned whether he mislead others to win an "Oprah Winfrey" scholarship to historically black Morehouse College.
The website noted that King has worked as a justice correspondent for the liberal website Daily Kos.
King has claimed to be a victim of racial harassment, but some became curious when he appeared to struggle with details about his own life, noted the Breitbart story.
King defended himself with two nuanced answers on Twitter Wednesday, saying he was never trying to be dishonest about his race.
