Stephen Hawking: Zayn Malik Still in One Direction in Alternate Universe

By    |   Monday, 27 April 2015 01:27 PM EDT

Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking fielded a question about former One Direction band member Zayn Malik during a lecture over the weekend, delighting teenage girls everywhere.

Reuters reported that Hawking was giving a science lecture at the Sydney Opera House via holographic technology when he received the pressing question.

"What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?" asked one local Australian.

"Finally a question about something important," Hawking quipped, prompting laughter from the audience.

"My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay attention to the study of theoretical physics because, one day, there may well be proof of multiple universes. It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another, different universe and, in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction."

The hopeful thought got even more hopeful for the inquirer/admirer when Hawking spoke of her in specific.

"This girl may like to know that in another possible universe," Hawking continued, "she and Zayn are happily married."
