“Stranger Things” hoodies are a hot item and fans of the Netflix series reportedly crashed a museum’s website trying to purchase the sweatshirt.
The purple sweatshirt sporting a skeleton of a Brontosaurus was worn by Dustin Henderson, played by Gaten Matarazzo, in episode one of "Stranger Things 2," Business Insider noted.
Turns out, the hoodie was first sold at the Science Museum of Minnesota in the early 1980s but has been made popular once again by the hit series.
The museum drew attention to the hoodie on social media when it shared a photo of Dustin Henderson wearing the item, saying “Yes, we want one too. Working on it!”
It wasn’t long before fans inundated the museum with requests for the vintage "Thunder Lizard" sweatshirt, the Minnesota Public Radio said.
The museum opened up online sales on Tuesday morning but the demand caused the museum’s website to crash.
By 11 a.m. its store was back online and by 4 p.m., Minnesota Public Radio noted, 10,000 units of the hoodie, worth about $400,000, had been sold.
By midweek the stock had been depleted and the museum’s store announced via a post on its website that new merchandise would be on shelves again by Thursday.
“Stranger Things” costume designer Kim Wilcox told Newsweek that she came across the vintage purple sweatshirt online.
"I really loved the Brontosaurus for Dustin, so we bought the original,” she said. “Then we made our own purple hoodie with this great dinosaur art in Gaten's size."
According to the museum, proceeds from purchases of the hoodie will go towards supporting its ongoing educational and research efforts.
