Super Bowl Floating Hotel: Cruise Ship Will House VIPs on Hudson River

By    |   Thursday, 07 November 2013 03:51 PM EST

The Super Bowl is getting its own floating hotel in the shape of a new cruise ship that will be docked along the Hudson River for the 2014 NFL championship game.

Norwegian Cruise Lines is building the new Norwegian Getaway in Germany, according to The Associated Press, which says the ship will sail to Holland on Jan. 10 and Southampton, England, before crossing the Atlantic. It is scheduled to arrive in New York on Jan. 26. The ship will host preview cruises for travel agents and media members before becoming the Bud Light Hotel to serve the Super Bowl.

The ship will be docked at Pier 88 in Manhattan during Super Bowl Weekend from Jan. 30 through Feb. 2. The NFL champion will be decided at MetLife Stadium at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

The general public will not be able to book rooms, the AP reports. They’re reserved primarily for VIPs, Bud Light retailers, and others. Tours, however, should be available.

The ship will be equipped with 22 bars and restaurants, and the Bud Light logo will be featured on everything from hand towels to shampoo bottles, according to United Press International.

MetLife Stadium, built at a cost of $1.6 billion, is the home of both the New York Jets and the New York Giants. It was chosen as the site of the 2014 Super Bowl after four rounds of secret voting in 2010. It will be the first open-air stadium in a cold weather region ever to host a Super Bowl. The average temperature for the Meadowlands region that time of year is 24 to 40 degrees.
