The Taco Bell Naked Chicken Chalupa will be released nationwide this month, bringing its fried chicken shell to the masses.
The company said the taco’s shell contains "4 ounces of marinated, all-white-meat, antibiotic-free chicken," which is loaded with "shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese and avocado ranch," according to USA Today.
The new taco, which can be ordered as part of a $5 meal deal, will cost $2.99.
“Something this delicious yet different is bound to ruffle some feathers,” said Marisa Thalberg, Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, according to USA Today. “We feel confident that once our fans get a taste of the Naked Chicken Chalupa they are going to understand exactly why this is our next big, fun and crave-able innovation.”
“The shell is the chicken. The chicken is the shell,” the company’s press release said. The new taco will be added to Taco Bell’s menu officially on Jan. 26.
A test run was done on the taco in 2015, and customers have waited on its return ever since, Refinery29 noted.
This announcement comes amid Taco Bell’s plans for expansion in China, according to Fox News.
Fixated on broadening its presence internationally in 2017, the company recently opened a new location in Shanghai, China.
Taco Bell said it plans to adapt to “local tastes,” adding new assortments to its menu, such as Sriracha sauce, a shrimp and avocado burrito, spicy fried chicken and Mexican fries, Fox News noted.
