The new trailer for upcoming crime movie "The Drop" will bring a smile to fans of the late "The Soprano" star James Gandolfini, who co-stars in his final movie with "The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy.
The international trailer was released last Thursday, a day after the anniversary of Gandolfini's death from a massive heart attack while vacationing in Rome. "The Drop" returns the 51-year-old actor, star of the critically acclaimed HBO mobster series, to New Jersey where he reached the height of his popularity.
Gandolfini co-stars as Hardy's onscreen cousin, Marv, who runs what is called a "drop bar," where illegal money is laundered. While not playing the imposing mob kingpin he did with "The Sopranos," Gandolfini delivers a Soprano-esque line "I was respected. I was feared," in the trailer.

"Gandolfini's character Marv has some obvious similarities to Tony Soprano: the bar, the accent, the mob connections,"
wrote Gwynne Watkins, of Yahoo! Movies. "But everything about the actor's body language shows that this is a different man. Whereas his 'Sopranos' character radiated power and danger, Marv seems vulnerable and desperate. ('The Drop' director Michael) Roskam believes that this film might have opened up a new chapter in his career."
Hardy, who played ex-con Bob Saginowski, tends bar at the establishment and appears to be trying to stay out of trouble, before family drags him back in "the life."
"Are you doing something different?" Hardy's character asked in trailer. "Something that we can't clean up this time?"
Actress Noomi Rapace, who appeared in "Prometheus" and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," can also be seen in the trailer as well, along with Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts.
Variety's Alex Stedman wrote that "The Drop," which is based on the short story "Animal Rescue," is scheduled to be out in theaters Sept. 12. The movie was written by Dennis Leehana, who also penned "Gone Baby Gone," "Shutter Island" and "Mystic River," according to Variety.
The award-winning "The Sopranos," which ran from 1999-2007 on HBO, was named the best-written television series of all time by Writers Guild of America East and West.
