Comedian Tommy Chong, the marijuana champion and most recently a "Dancing With the Stars" performer, said he has been diagnosed with cancer for a second time. Before it was prostate cancer, this time it's rectal cancer.
Chong, 77, half of the longtime stoner comedy duo Cheech & Chong, told
Us Weekly that he was seeking treatment for the disease.
"I've had some medical issues lately," said Chong, adding he was using marijuana as part of his treatment regimen. "I got diagnosed with rectal cancer. I'm using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before. I'm in treatment now. I've been — just the case either way, either I get healed or I don't. But either way, I'm going to make sure I get a little edge off or put up."
He confirmed his renewed cancer fight with a Twitter post on Wednesday.
Chong pushed for marijuana legalization when he said he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2012,
reported CNN.
"I've got prostate cancer, and I'm treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis," Chong said in a CNN interview then. "So (legalizing marijuana) means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested."
Chong proclaimed himself cancer-free in
CelebStoner.com blog a year later.
"That's right, I kicked cancer's a**," wrote Chong then. "So the magic plant does cure cancer with the right diet and supplements. I'm due for another blood test, MRI, etc., but I feel the best I've felt in years."
Chong and comedy partner Cheech Marin recorded a series of best-selling comedy albums in the early 1970s, before turning to movies with 1978's "Up in Smoke," leading to a series of marijuana-themed flicks into the 1980, noted CNN.
Chong found support online after announcing his diagnosis.
