Tom Steyer, the billionaire activist behind NeedToImpeach.com, announced that he will spend $10 million to place ads encouraging the impeachment of President Donald Trump, beginning with Friday’s airing of "Fox & Friends."
Steyer chose Fox & Friends as the time to air his anti-Trump ads because it is said to be the president’s favorite show on his favorite network, Ad Age reported.
The ad, titled “Join Us,” showed Steyer narrating a litany of things he thinks Trump did that deserve impeachment.
“He’s brought us to the brink of nuclear war,” Steyer said in reference to recent tensions between the U.S. and North Korea, Salon reported. Steyer also accused Trump of obstruction of justice in the firing of then-FBI director James Comey and of taking money from foreign governments and threatening to shut down news organizations he doesn’t like.
“If that isn’t the case for impeaching and removing a dangerous president, then what has our government become?” Steyer said to conclude the ad. ‘I’m Tom Steyer, and like you, I’m a citizen who knows it’s up to us to do something. It’s why I’m funding this effort to raise our voices together and demand that elected officials take a stand on impeachment.”
Trump responded to the ad Friday morning with a tweet calling Steyer “wacky & totally unhinged” and commenting that he “never wins elections.”
Steyer became a billionaire as a hedge fund manager. He has supported a number of Democratic candidates and Democrat causes like fighting climate change, Ad Age reported.
