A "Walking Dead" murder suspect allegedly beat his friend to death in New Mexico this week after the two spent a night drinking and binge watching AMC's zombie-apocalypse television series.
Damon Perry, 23, of Prewitt, New Mexico, was arrested by the Grants Police Department on Thursday after he told authorities that his friend, Christopher Paquin, began
"to change into a zombie," KOB-TV reported.
The two were watching "The Walking Dead" on Netflix shortly before neighbors at the apartment complex complained about a man running around with a knife threatening to kill people.
A maintenance worker eventually subdued the man, who was later identified as Perry, before
police arrived, according to the Cibola Beacon.
According to KRQE-TV, Perry told investigators that he and Paquin were drinking heavily and the mood all took a turn for the worse when his friend "started to change into a zombie" and tried to bite him.
Perry then started beating Paquin, hitting him with an electric guitar and a microwave, among other items, before finally stabbing him to death.
"If you've ever watched the show, you'd know that the only way to kill a zombie is to attack it in its head," detective Sgt. Moses Marquez told KOB-TV. "Well, when police arrived in this complex, there was a knife inside the victim's head."
"I do believe his story behind this is true. He genuinely felt that his friend was changing into a zombie due to his inebriated state. Our department is dealing with something that I have never seen or heard of in my entire 13 years here," Marquez added.
"The Walking Dead" premiered its sixth season on AMC on Oct. 11.
