Warren Sapp, NFL Hall of Famer, was charged with domestic abuse in Las Vegas Thursday after he allegedly bit his girlfriend and stepped on her face.
The charges stemmed from an April incident that started at the M Resort in Henderson, Nevada, but continued when Sapp and his unidentified girlfriend drove home to her condominium in
Las Vegas, The Associated Press reported.
Sapp faces three domestic battery misdemeanors and could get up to 18 months in jail if he is found guilty. In February, Sapp pleaded guilty to assaulting and soliciting a prostitute in Phoenix and was subsequently fired from the NFL Network, the AP said.
TMZ reported the April incident started at the hotel poolside when Sapp allegedly threw a margarita in his longtime girlfriend’s face and then yanked on her so violently that she almost fell.
The couple continued fighting in the car on the way home, TMZ reported, and it was then that Sapp allegedly bit her finger. The altercation continued once they arrived at the girlfriend’s home.
"Once inside, Sapp allegedly threw a belt at her . . . and she threw it back at him . . . and during the altercation, she ended up on the floor," TMZ wrote. "While she was down, Chalyce claims Sapp stepped on her face while wearing white Jordan sandals. Sapp is approximately 6-foot-2, 300 pounds, and wears size 15 shoes."
NBC Sports opined that any chance of Sapp recovering from the February arrest and returning to analyzing football for the media was probably shot after the charges this week.
Many went online to express their opinions about Sapp's alleged actions, some referring back to the February incident with the prostitutes, for which Sapp received a diversion for part of the charges:
