Prince William and wife Kate Middleton attended a Brooklyn Nets basketball game this week as part of their trip to New York City, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had the chance to meet America's royal couple — Beyonce and Jay-Z.
William and Kate had sideline seats Monday night at the Barclays Center to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, beat the Nets 110-88 in a game that was also attended by
NBA commissioner Adam Silver, according to ESPN.
"It felt like the [NBA] Finals, to be honest," Nets All-Star forward Kevin Garnett told ESPN New York. "There was a lot of energy in the building, a lot of press, a lot of people in the building and a lot of things going on."
But the highlight of the evening came between the third and fourth quarter when Jay-Z and Beyonce walked over from their seats to greet the royals, sending the arena into a
frenzy of photo snapping, USA Today reported.
"I was trying to get in on that because I really wanted to meet Beyonce and Jay-Z," Cavaliers coach David Blatt later joked with reporters. "I haven't done that yet. And I really wanted to talk to the royal couple, as a European. But I missed my chance. Instead coached a good team and a good basketball game, and I'll have to settle for that."
LeBron James, who scored 18 points for the Cavs, also got to meet the royal couple after the game and presented them with two replica uniforms, one for Prince George back home.
William and Kate also chatted with former basketball star and NBA global ambassador Dikembe Mutombo.
