Zendaya has responded to Giuliana Rancic's comments about the dreadlocks the singer showed off on the red carpet at the Oscars Sunday.
"I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed. Maybe weed?" Rancic, of E!'s "Fashion Police," said of the teenager's hair. (Click below to hear the audio).
Yahoo News reported on Monday that Zendaya was none too pleased with Rancic's jibes, and took to Twitter to vent her frustration. In a lengthy statement, Zendaya defended her choice of hairstyle, and brought to bear a discussion about race.
"My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough," she wrote.
Zendaya soon got a Twitter response from Rancic, who stood by her comments, saying it had nothing to do with race.
