President Donald Trump, during a Wednesday trip to Nashville, Tenn., where he paid tribute to the seventh president, Andrew Jackson, on his 250th birthday, cited Jackson as a hero and a reflection of himself, The Hill reported.
"No wonder why they keep talking about Trump and Jackson, Jackson and Trump; oh, I know the feeling, Andrew," Trump said, referring to the populist comparisons made about the two.
"It was during the revolution that Jackson first confronted and defied an arrogant elite. Does that sound familiar to you?" the 45th president said.
"Captured by the red coats and ordered to shine the shoes of a British officer, Jackson simply refused," Trump said, referring to the time Jackson was captured by the British during the Revolutionary War. "From that day on, Andrew Jackson rejected authority that looked down on the common people."
Many have compared Trump to Jackson for several reasons: both wealthy, they gave a voice to the working class, both wins in the presidential election were considered the people beating the establishment, and, like Jackson, Trump's personality is considered showy and controversial.
