Bobby Jindal: Obama Undermining the 'American Dream'

Wednesday, 17 September 2014 12:48 PM EDT

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has ripped into President Barack Obama’s foreign and domestic policies, while attacking him for trying to change “the definition of the American Dream.”

“I think this president is both the most incompetent and the most ideologically extreme president I’ve ever seen,” the GOP governor told The Daily Signal’s Genevieve Wood.

“You have seen it in the economy … you’ve seen it in foreign policy, in which the administration refuses to unequivocally support Israel against Hamas.

“You see it where they just dithered over ISIS [the Islamic State], allowing them to gather strength and force. You see in with Russia now being in Crimea and [Russian President Alexander] Putin threatening Ukraine, knowing that he does not fear the consequences of this government," Jindal said.

Story continues below video.

"The thing that concerns me the most is not just Obamacare and the $18 trillion of the debt, and the borrowing, and the EPA, it’s this president trying to change the definition of the American Dream, trying to make us more dependent on government, trying to create a larger, more intrusive government than we have ever had before, trying in many ways to make us look more like Europe."

During his interview, Jindal also attacked the Obama administration’s handling of the thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America who have been caught crossing illegally into the United States.

"We had about 1000 kids placed in our state by the federal government," said the governor. "No advance warning given to the state or local government.

"We asked the administration for basic information, where are they going in the state, where are they going to school. They kept telling us they were not going to send us kids without telling us, and no cost to your state.

"Turns out, that was not true. We need this president to secure our borders. We don’t need a comprehensive (immigration) bill. We don’t need … excuses."

Despite Jindal blaming Obama’s sheepish foreign policy for the Islamic State’s rise to power, the governor on Tuesday threw his support behind the president's controversial plan to arm moderate Syrian rebels in the war against the ISIS.

Jindal told a Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington that "absolutely Congress should support the administration's request" to train, finance and supply weapons to the Free Syrian Army to fight ISIS and the loyalist forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Also on Tuesday, during a speech to The Heritage Foundation, Jindal said that Americans are eager for what he called a “hostile takeover” of Washington.

"We need to understand people are hungry for big change," he said. "They’re not looking for tinkering, they’re looking for a hostile takeover of D.C.

"I hear from too many Republicans, 'Well, you can’t really repeal Obamacare, that’s the law of the land.' That’s nonsense. We need to repeal and replace it."
