Los Angeles declares itself "the northern capital of Latin America" in a splashy promotional video showing off the city's diversity aimed to snag the 2024 summer Olympics.
Released Monday by
Los Angeles' 2024 Olympic bid organizers, the 1-minute, 10-second video compiles stunning landscapes of the city's shoreline and skyline, and a diverse, youthful population that merits designation as "the western capital of the U.S., the northern capital of Latin America," and "the eastern capital of the Pacific Rim."
Story continues below video.
Los Angeles last hosted the Olympics in 1984, and
replaces Boston as a U.S. contender after the city conceded it couldn't afford to host the event.
Rome, Paris, Hamburg, Germany, and Budapest, Hungary are also in the running, the
Hollywood Reporter notes.
The International Olympics Committee will select the host city at its session in Lima, Peru, in 2017.
The United States hasn't hosted a Summer Games since Atlanta staged the 1996 Olympics. New York and Chicago failed in bids for the 2012 and 2016 Games, respectively.
