Liberals are more likely to block or defriend someone on Facebook than Republicans over political differences, a new survey has shown.
The Pew Research Journalism Project says that when it comes to so-called friendships, politics and social media do not mix.
In its study, Pew found that more than four out of every 10 consistent liberals, 44 percent, say they have blocked or defriended a person because they "disagreed with something that person posted about politics."
"This compares with 31 percent of consistent conservatives and just 26 percent of all Facebook users who have done the same," Pew researchers said in their report, Political Polarization and Media Habits, on the project.
Liberals would drop friends if they started espousing conservative opinions while conservatives would dump friends if they posted progressive views, the report said.
The survey also revealed that more than half of all conservatives in the United States trust in Fox News for their news stories, according to
The Washington Examiner.
The survey said that liberals tend to get their information from CNN, NPR, The New York Times and MSNBC, while conservatives tend to turn to Fox.
As for what media outlet people are most wary of, that dubious honor went to BuzzFeed, which was "more distrusted than trusted" across every ideological spectrum, according to the study.
The survey also showed that a majority of liberals distrust the influential Drudge Report while conservatives tend to trust it. As for moderates, they viewed the site as "about equally trusted as distrusted."
