GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A man killed his estranged wife and four of her relatives, and injured several others, before shooting himself to death at his son's birthday party at a roller rink Saturday night, police said.
The shootings happened at Forum Roller World in Grand Prairie, about 20 miles west of Dallas.
The rink had been rented for a private birthday party for the man's 11-year-old son, said Grand Prairie detective John Brimmer. The man told the children to leave before he opened fire, Brimmer said.
He identified the shooter as 35-year-old Tan Do of Grand Prairie and his wife as 29-year-old Trini Do. The couple had been having marriage problems that investigators believe led to the shootings, Brimmer said.
The couple's two children are safe and with other relatives, he said.
Family members had rented the entire rink for the evening to celebrate the birthday, he said. All the dead and wounded were teenagers and adults attending the gathering.
"This was a domestic situation that went south in a hurry." Brimmer said. "The shooting lasted only seconds."
The wounded were hospitalized but their condition was not immediately known, Brimmer said.
