The New York Post has identified a triangular pin worn by members of President-elect Donald Trump's inner circle.
The Post notes the triangular pin is so the Secret Service can quickly distinguish members of the Trump team from other visitors at Trump Tower, and so they can move through the security perimeter easily.
The pin is a gold-rimmed red triangle and has been seen on close aides such as White House press secretary Sean Spicer and Trump's senior adviser on policy Stephen Miller.
Huffington Post writer Eliot Nelson questioned the pin back in March 2016, tweeting:
Vocativ also questioned the meaning of the symbol, saying Hope Hicks, Trump's campaign communication coordinator, refused to explain the meaning of the pin.
The icon could be seen as representative of some secret societies, Vocativ noted.
Sabine Modersheim, professor at the University of Wisconsin said the triangle's color scheme, gold and purple, could signify the Trump organization.
"My guess would be that they tried to allude to the Trump gold logos and some vague association with wealth and royalty in the purple."
