The $1 billion requested by the White House in a recent budget supplement will fund 48 miles of a new wall along the United States' border with Mexico, according to a new report.

CNN cites Department of Homeland Security documents that say the money would fund 62 miles of wall — 48 new miles and 14 miles of replacement.

The network breaks down it down to 14 miles of new wall in San Diego, and 28 miles of new levee wall barriers and six miles of new wall in the Rio Grande Valley. An additional 14 miles of existing fence in San Diego would be replaced.

The administration asked for $2.6 billion for the proposed wall in the 2018 budget.

Total costs for the wall's construction have varied, but a Homeland Security estimate earlier this year claimed it would cost as much as $21.6 billion.

CNN also speculates as to what the best material for the wall would be, either cinder blocks, poured concrete, or precast concrete slabs. The latter seemed to be the best solution, although some DHS officials would like it to be constructed of see-through fencing in order to provide a view of what is going on on the opposite side.

The wall, according to federal contract notices, could be as high as 30 feet.
