Dolly Parton is establishing a fund to provide $1,000 a month to help victims of the wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountains region of Tennessee.

The singer and actress, who made the announcement in a video, said her companies are forming the "My People's Fund" because she "always believed that charity begins at home."

Parton is a native of Sevier County, Tennessee and placed her Dollywood theme park and other attractions and hotels in the area.

"We want to provide a hand up to all those families that have lost everything in the fires," she said in the announcement. "And to recover, we want to make sure that the Dollywood Foundation provides a thousand dollars a month to all those families that have lost their homes in the fires until they get back up on their feet.

"I know it's been a trying time for my people, and this assistance will help," she added.

The singer said that beginning Dec. 2, charitable donations can be made at the Dollywood Foundation's website.

On Thursday morning, WBIR reported that the death toll from the wildfires were up to seven.
