Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire businessman, revealed he fired staffers who advised him "a New York billionaire who's changed parties a number of times couldn't be elected."

His comments came during an interview with Stephen Colbert on CBS's "The Late Show."

Bloomberg had been rumored to run as an independent for the White House in 2016. He told Colbert he seriously considered making a bid for the White House, but finally decided against it.

"Well, my advisers told me that a New York billionaire who's changed parties a number of times couldn't be elected. So, I fired them," Bloomberg with a straight face.

Bloomberg said he doesn't have any regrets about not running.

The Hill noted Bloomberg was once a Democrat before joining the GOP shortly before he ran for mayor.

He later became an independent, according to the New York Times.
