North Carolina Governor Signs Voter Identification Law

North Carolina Governor Signs Voter Identification Law

Monday, 12 August 2013 03:54 PM EDT

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signed into law a sweeping new election measure that requires voters to present a photo identification at the polls.

The bill signed by the Republican governor also reduces the early voting period by one week. Critics have said it will make it harder for the elderly, minorities and low income citizens to vote in the state.
