Rick Santorum's Hobby Lobby Documentary Headed to Churches

Tuesday, 01 July 2014 06:11 PM EDT

A Rick Santorum-backed documentary about Hobby Lobby's recent Supreme Court fight is headed to churches on Sept. 1. "One Generation Away: The Erosion of Religious Liberty," from the former senator's EchoLight Studios, will chronicle several legal cases, including the craft chain's battle over employer payment for contraception.

On Monday, the Supreme Court struck down the section of the Affordable Care Act that requires private companies to cover certain aspects of contraception in providing their employees medical insurance in a 5-4 decision. Hobby Lobby filed the suit against former Sec. of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, charging that it violated private corporations' freedom of religion.

The film will also focus on six other cases in which conservatives claim religious freedom has come under scrutiny from the government: the Mt. Soledad Veteran's Memorial in San Diego; wedding service providers in Oregon and Washington; the chaplaincy in the military; two education cases with a collegiate counseling program; and high school cheerleaders in Koontz, Texas.

"One Generation Away" will be released through EchoLight Cinemas, which utilizes churches as the first-run venues for their films before opening them in theaters.

EchoLight Studios is a faith and family film studio and distributor.
