Abandoned Satellite Transmits for First Time in 50 Years

An abandoned American satellite mysteriously came back online and began transmitting again for the first time since 1967, The Daily Caller reported.

The satellite, called LES1, was launched into space in 1965 but soon stopped transmitting due to circuitry errors, according to The Daily Caller. The transmissions from LES1 fluctuate, leading NASA to believe it only transmits when the satellite's solar panels are in direct sunlight.

Amateurs picked up transmissions from the first LES, or Lincoln Experimental Satellites, back in 2013, but needed years to confirm it.
