Republican Sens. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma and John McCain of Arizona have fought on many issues over the years, with earmarks a primary example. But now they have reached common ground on the issue,
Politico reports.

Sen. John McCain |
Discussing McCain’s opposition to earmarks last summer, Inhofe told the Tulsa World, “He’s using one thing to make him look conservative. What is that one thing? Earmarks.”
But now the veteran earmark supporter has gained McCain’s backing for a plan that would allow home-state projects if Senate committees approve them first. That’s quite an accomplishment for Inhofe, the most strident Republican struggling against the decisions by Congress and President Barack Obama to effectively prohibit earmarks.
To be sure winning approval of his plan won’t be easy for Inhofe, but gaining McCain’s support helps.
