Russia is as likely to invade the U.S. as Belgium. But the Democrats needed an evil enemy in order to destroy Trump, whom they accuse of cozying up to Russia and President Vladimir Putin in order to defeat Hillary Clinton.
Before this paranoid passion play, Russia was not our enemy. They did make dicey moves in the international chess game among nations, such as snatching the Crimea, but that act was predictable with Obama in the White House.
So what did the Democrats do once committed to the Russia-Putin narrative? First, there was an onslaught of semaphores from every Democrat ship in the political sea. So many were transmitting, the end result was a successful sale of the narrative that Donald Trump collaborated with Russia and Putin before he was elected.
The reliable media were bobbing, on watch duty awaiting orders from the Democrat presidium to launch unattributed propaganda grenades disguised as “news stories.” Fleet officers, such as the consummate geek Thomas Friedman, disembarked from the USS New York Times to appear on Sunday morning talk shows.
As an example of the sheer transparency and meretricious nature of the charade to vilify Russia, and therefore Trump, Friedman bloviated a supposed clear and present danger threatening America by the Russians. Play-acting hysterically, he breathlessly warned of Putin showing off his nuclear capability, machinations to undermine NATO, and, of course, interfering in U.S. elections to assist Trump.
All of this stage-managed dumb show, to vilify Trump and position Democrats as the answer to prevent instant annihilation from the Russians, achieved one observable goal. They let the world know they are the ultimate political joke; that Trump hardly needed Putin to defeat the Democrats. The spectacle watching them make such fools of themselves is quite enough.
