Hawaii has eight major islands, and the Aloha State as a whole is home to nearly 1.4 million people.
But where are the five biggest cities in Hawaii, you ask?
According to the United States Census Bureau, Hawaii has no incorporated cities, unlike the mainland, but the bureau has a workaround.
The bureau defines these unincorporated population centers as census-designated places to estimate the number of people living within these urban communities.

1. Honolulu is the capital city of Hawaii, but the U.S. Census Bureau "does not show data separately for the city of Honolulu, which is coextensive with Honolulu County," because of an agreement with the state.
However,
the 2010 census estimate for the urban Honolulu CDP population was 337,256.
Honolulu County, on the island of Oahu, is home to 70 percent — 953,207 — of the Aloha State's population.
2. Pearl City has a resident population of approximately 47,698. People who identify as only "native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander" constitute 5.5 percent of the city's makeup, the smallest representation of that people group among the cities on this list.
Pearl City sits 95 feet above sea level and sits in the shadows of some of Hawaii’s most towering mountains,
according to the unofficial Hawaii State Info.
The city itself is only five square miles and it is only 11 miles from downtown Honolulu.
Pearl Harbor is considered to be the city’s biggest attraction.

3. Hilo, Hawaii, is the third-largest city in the state with a population estimated to be 43,263. Hilo is located on Hawaii Island, also known as “The Big Island,” and the only city listed here not on Oahu.
Of all cities on this list, Hilo has the largest concentration of people of only "native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander" heritage at 14.3 percent of its total citizenry.
Hilo is also considered to be the gateway to the Hawaii National Volcanoes Park, a busy tourist attraction. The city is filled with waterfalls, rain forests and lush flower gardens,
according to the Hawaiian Tourism Authority.
4. Just 30 minutes from Waikiki Beach sits Kailua, home to 38,635 residents.
The biggest draw to the city is the beach, and while it isn’t considered an urban hub, the city touts its standout collection of boutique shops.
5. The city of Waipahu has 38,216 residents.
According to To-Hawaii. com, the city was once home to a sugar plantation and the town is named after an artesian spring. Fresh springs once flowed in the city, which, in ancient times, brought royalty to enjoy the cool and clear water.
Waipahu is located just north of Pearl Harbor.
