In a scenario similar to the United States, residents, activists, and political leaders across Europe have differing viewpoints on the definition of global warming. At times, proponents throughout the region have cast a dire depiction of the natural environment, while opponents have asserted the statements are inflated.
In Europe, the definition of global warming mirrors the statements in the U.S., including a belief the world’s temperature is rising through such pollutants as fossil fuel combustion, deforestation, carbon dioxide emissions, and changes in land use.

In its position statement, the European Commission’s definition of global warming frequently uses the word “dangerous” and advocates toward adopting policies to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. The EC is an executive body charged with adopting regional legislation.
The EC is calling on all international countries to contribute to the fight against global warming. The legislative body has set specific benchmarks, including a call to keep temperatures on par with what is believed to have been recorded in pre-industrial times. The EC also is calling on countries to stop all global greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
One organization leading the effort to adopt policies in favor of mitigating a perceived global warming threat is the Union of Concerned Scientists. The coalition is comprised of professionals throughout the 52-country region.
Similar to global warming advocates in the U.S., members of the UCS place some of the blame on their own countries. On their website, the
UCS states European countries “bear a significant responsibility for its historical contributions of global warming pollution.”

The UCS asserts, in its definition of global warming, that the European region houses six of the top 20 carbon dioxide emitters across the globe.
As is the case in America, there are plenty of naysayers who are attempting to poke holes in the global warming argument. In 2014, former United Kingdom environment secretary Owen Paterson went on record and asserted efforts to fight the perceived global warming epidemic might do more harm than good.
“There has not been a temperature increase now for probably 18 years, some people say 26 years,”
Paterson said at a Conservative party conference in September, according to The Daily Caller.
In his definition of global warming, Paterson asserted such pollutants as carbon dioxide could have some impact on the environment, but he has asserted the climate change advocates’ position is overly exaggerated.
“I think the climate has always been changing,” Paterson continued, The Daily Caller said.
