Jordan Spieth has been considered one of the top golfers on the PGA tour since he turned pro at age 19. Now, at the age of 23, he has racked up major tour victories, including the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open championships in 2015.

He remains consistent with his playing, maintaining his position as a major contender on the professional circuit. His unique techniques are among the reasons for his successes at such a young age.

To improve your game, here are five golf tips from Jordan Spieth:

1. Use speed during the downswing — Jordan has a minimal hip turn in his golf swing, notes PGA golf instructor John Stahlschmidt in Golf Tips Magazine. He turns his shoulders 90 degrees while only moving the hips at 25 degrees, whereas many golfers turn the hips at about 45 degrees. This provides a burst of speed for the downswing.

2. Keep weight on the lead foot during impact — He has all or most of his weight on his lead foot at impact for a balanced finish during the swing, Stahlschmidt adds.

3. Try the cross-handed putt — Jordan says changing from a conventional grip to a cross-handed one in putting helped him win or place in major tournaments. He places the left hand below the right on the handle, finding a trigger, and then keeps the left wrist flat, he writes in Golf.

4. Go for the green reading routine — Jordan employs a “360-degree view” for a putt. He looks from behind the ball, then to the opposite side of the hole for a view, and returns behind the ball to look at and memorize the target. Picture in your mind how fast or slow the ball will approach the hole before putting.

5. Hit the ground and ball to maximize distance — Strike the ground just in front of the ball, instead of trying to hit the ball. In this way, Jordan makes ball-first contact for a crisp shot, he reveals in Golf Digest.
