New Mexico ranks 35th in a 2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo. "A relatively weak self-defense law is one of the only factors making New Mexico a less attractive destination for gun owners." The state received a score of 37 out of 50 based on right to carry laws, restrictions on sporting rifles, National Firearms Act rights, Castle Doctrine and a miscellaneous category.

Here are five spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of New Mexico:

1. Patriot Outdoors: Located in Clovis, this all American company promises, "Every person gets an old-fashioned hello, a firm handshake, a look in the eye, and a nod of respect. When a person is with us, they are one of us." The facility provides firearms sales and rentals, firearm instruction from basic to advanced specialty courses and a full range including static pistol, multipurpose and a high power rifle range.
