Alaska, also know as "The Last Frontier," is famed for having some of the best big game hunting in the country. With over 600,000 square miles, it also boasts one of the most diverse hunting terrains. According to
World Atlas, Alaska is home to “majestic mountains, glaciers, active volcanoes, huge tracks of forested land and some of the planet's most varied extremes of cold, heat, rain, snow and wind.”

- Alaska Department of Fish and Game - This is the official government page for all things hunting in Alaska. This website provides all the information from buying licenses and tags, to searching area maps, to filing a hunt report. They also break down Alaska’s game species like black bear, moose, bison, caribou, and waterfowl. Given that Alaska is one-fifth the size of the U.S., it’s best to do as much research as possible on the best areas to hunt and at what times of year. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has this information broken down already, making this site a hunter’s best friend.
- Alaska Professional Hunter's Association - The Alaska Professional Hunter's Association is “dedicated to the conservation of our wildlife resources” in Alaska. In 2004, they established the Non-Resident Hunting Preservation fund “to help ensure that non-resident hunters will continue to have hunting opportunities in Alaska.” They include a list of guides that are in good standing with the organization, as well those that stick to its Code of Ethics of wildlife conservation. There are three categories of guides from which to choose, including Master, Registered, and Assistant Guides. All the contact information is available, including name, address, email, website and phone number.
- Trimble GPS Hunt and Fish, Alaska Off-the-Grid - Trimble GPS apps for hunting are designed with hunters in mind. The GPS Hunt app allows you to locate “hunting spots on detailed outdoor maps, track wildlife, take trophy photos, and backtrack home.” The GPS Maps app offer detailed, topographical maps and advanced tools to plan a hunt from start to finish. The app is broken down by state, and to have access to Alaska as part of the app requires Elite member status. However, they do offer a free 14-day trial. Elite status also enables hunters to go off the grid, by saving their maps directly to devices without the need of a data signal.
