Hunting in Arkansas happens year-round. Through every season, hunters don their camouflage, collect their gear, and head outdoors to bag their game. And while a handful of animals are open season all year long, most game is only available to hunt in very specific and regulated seasons.
Some seasons even vary by zone, so hunters should always review regulations before planning their excursion.

Here are 11 animals to hunt in the fall in Arkansas:
1. Alligator
For two four-day periods in September, alligator is fair game in Zones 1 and 3 in Arkansas. Permits are only awarded to applicants by drawing, and they allow each hunter to take only one alligator that’s at least 4 feet long.
2. Bear
Seasons for this large game vary depending on the hunter’s weapon of choice. Archery season lasts from the end of September to the end of November, modern guns can be used in November, and sometimes into December, and muzzleloaders are cleared for use during a brief period in October. Only one bear is allowed per hunter per year.
3. Crow
September through February is Crow season statewide in Arkansas and there is no limit to how many a hunter can claim.
4. Deer
Another big game species with varying seasons is deer. Archery season lasts from the end of September to the end of February, muzzleloaders are permitted during a week in September and a weekend in December, and modern guns can be used from the middle of November into December. Several special seasons also exist and bag limit is six with no more than two allowed to be bucks.
5. Dove
Available for most of September and October, hunters can bag up to 15 per day.
6. Migratory Birds
Several species of migratory birds, such as common snipe, woodcock, rails, and gallinules, can be hunted in much of September through November if not longer and daily limits vary from three to 25.

7. Elk
For about a week in October and November, elk is open season. A hunting permit must be applied for in advance and hunters are required to check in often to ensure daily quotas haven’t been met.
8. Frog
This season runs from mid-April to the end of the year and no more than 18 bullfrogs may be caught and killed in a day.
9. Furbearers
Beaver, muskrat, and coyote, are among the many furbearers that can be hunted at various times throughout the fall and often into winter and spring.
10. Small Game
Rabbit, squirrel, and quail also vary in exact season dates, but provide game for hunters during the fall.
11. Waterfowl
Some water-loving birds, including duck and the Canada goose, are open season during the fall, mostly September and November. Dates, species, and bag limits vary per species.
