Medrol, or methylprednisolone, is a drug that is used to prevent the body from experiencing inflammation by stopping substances from within the body from being released and thereby causing inflammation. Medrol is used to treat a number of conditions including skin conditions, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, breathing disorders, and allergic disorders.

Before you will be prescribed Medrol, you will need to talk with your health care provider about your personal health history. If you have had things like liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, depression, stomach ulcers, and other serious health conditions, your physician needs to know about them - if they do not already.

When talking about prescription medications, there is always the risk of side effects. There are serious side effects and less serious side effects that all patients should know about before taking prescription medications.

Some side effects of Medrol include:
  • Problems sleeping, insomnia.
  • Nausea, bloating, stomach pain.
  • Changes in your body composition; specifically body fat.
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Wounds that heal slowly.
  • Headaches, dizziness.
  • Acne, dry skin.
Serious side effects of Medrol are not common, but if you experience any of them, you need to stop taking Medrol and consult with your doctor immediately. The possible serious side effects of Medrol include:
  • Vision problems, including blurred vision.
  • Rapid weight gain.
  • Breathing problems such as shortness of breath.
  • Severe changes in mood or behavior including depression.
  • Seizures.
  • Dangerously high blood pressure with accompanying symptoms like severe headaches, chest pain, ear buzzing, and irregular heartbeat.
  • Stomach pains, pancreatitis.
  • Bloody, tarry stools.
  • Coughing up blood.
These are the most serious side effects of Medrol and should not be ignored. You could be putting yourself and others at risk if you neglect to tell your doctor about any symptoms you may be having. Before your doctor will prescribe Medrol, they will ask a series of questions regarding your health history and they will also inform you of all of the potential side effects of Medrol. Always take Medrol as prescribed.
