The little golden statue from the Academy Awards has long eluded Sylvester Stallone, but honors and accolades — some prestigious, some heartfelt, and some dubious — have been bestowed on the creator of "Rocky" and star of "Rambo" in his storied career.
It started with "Rocky," of course. The tale of the down-at-the-heels Philadelphia palooka wasn't his first role, but it was the one that launched his career. Although the director of "Rocky," John G. Avildsen, took home an Oscar in 1976, Stallone did get two nominations — Best Actor and Best Screenplay — for the movie he wrote and shopped around. It also won the coveted Best Picture Oscar.
As the years and the movies piled up, so did the recognition of his career as a whole: lifetime and career achievement awards from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films (1997), Hollywood Film Awards (2010), and CinemaCon (2012).
While the industry elite may not give him an award, his film fans have. Stallone received the Favorite Motion Picture Actor Award from the People's Choice Awards in 1986.

Awards have come from abroad for Stallone, such as the Stockholm Film Festival, Golden Camera in Germany, David di Donatello Awards in Italy, World Stunt Awards, Zurich Film Festival Golden Icon Award, and Honorary Cesar Award from France.
He has also been on the receiving award of more notorious awards, such as the not-so-coveted Razzie Awards. Stallone leads the pack in Razzie awards, according to the Golden Raspberry Awards Foundation.
He's received the Razzie Award for Worst Actor of the Decade for the 1980s for his work in "Cobra," "Lock Up," "Over the Top," "Rambo: First Blood Part II" and "Rambo III," "Rocky IV," "Rhinestone," and "Tango & Cash."
But the highest of the lows had to be the 2000 Worst Actor of the Century Razzie. The Razzies noted "All-Time Razzie Cham-Peen" Stallone was up against Kevin Costner, the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, William Shatner, and Pauly Shore for the century award.
But they still love him in the City of Brotherly Love.
Philadelphia marked the 30th anniversary of "Rocky" in 2006 (and that year's release of "Rocky Balboa") with Philly Loves Rocky Week, featuring a boxing exhibition, a Rocky and Adrian look-alike contest, rededication of the Rocky statue at the foot of the Philadelphia Art Museum steps (it had been at the top of the steps, then moved away), and a Hero Thrill Show (for which Stallone was the grand marshal), raising money for the education of survivors of police and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
